Fridays lesson

Today I started my day at long road because we wanted to do the studio scene with people dancing to 1234 at the back of the long road stage. e did a variety of shots including a shot of all of us dancing with an illusion of more people, close ups of hands and feet, and also Yas lip synched for some parts as well.

I then went to coleridge where I was going to upload the footage which we captured at long road, but i couldn't because the mac which my group doesn't let final cut work, and we didn't have the password for 'Administrator' so we will have to do it in tuesdays lesson instead.

Tuesday 22nd - Friday 26th

Tuesday - On tuesday we did the costume changing scene. We managed to find a place for this scene in a music room which we have used for our studio. In the background of the filming which we did, there is a piano which I thought works quite effectively. Throughout the main filming we kept the camera in the same place, and we did four rounds of shooting with Yas in different places for each one.

Wednesday - Our idea for wednesday was to do some cutaways and blog work, but we didn't have a camera to film with, so we only did blog work on this day.

Thursday - In thursdays lesson we decided to do some various shots of Rob playing his guitar outside the back of long road.

Friday - On friday we did our studio footage of a group of people dancing at the back of the long road stage.

Comparing Digipaks

I like the fact that each of us had very different ideas for the digipak. My idea surrounded more on the practice shooting which we did, so all of my pictures were from that. Yas had a totally different perspective of how to do the digipak as you can see on her blog, and she took pictures at home with a different idea to which I had, but I think that it looks brilliant. She has also taken lyrics from the song for the title of her album. Ali aslo had a totally different idea to what I had aswell, and she has merged two pictures together to make her front cover which i think looks great and very creative. I also like the effects that she has put on her digipak.

I really like how each of us have got different ideas for the digipaks, as it shows our different creative sided and shows how individual we all are to each other.

Studio practice footage for 1,2,3,4

Here is my groups practice studio footage which we did today at Coleridge:

1.2.3.4 footage ali, jah, yas from cmdiploma on Vimeo.

Here are some screengrabs of the work in progress.

As it just test footage I can get away with saying that I don't think it is very good, but it shows what ideas we have for our studio scene. I have noted down what Nick has said and I think that when we do the real thing we need to create the illusion that there are more people in the space we use, by maybe moving the camera through the crowd.

Ancillary Task - Digipak (Poster/Magazine) Alternative result

Here is my alternative poster for the ancillary task. I decided to make the colours different to test out what it would look like:

Ancillary Task - Digipak (Poster/Magazine)

Here is my poster for the digipak which I made today at coleridge on photoshop:

I chose the red and yellow colours throughout most of the poster because I felt that the colours best suited our whole theme of happiness and excitement.

How I created the inside of my digipak

This post is for Ali and Yas to read if they want to....
When I did my digipak, I put the cd template in to photoshop and created it in there. On the template there is the outline to where the cd would be placed. I then placed a background which I liked behind the outline of where the cd goes by chaanging the background into a layer and I also brought the transpareny down a bit. I then got another picture which I wanted to be the actual cd cover and placed it on top of the first picture. The next thing which I had to do was take the magic wond click on the circular part where the cd would go and press delete so that there is just a blank space in the circular bit. You then have to get the second picture which you picked and use one of the tools on the side. The tool that you have to use is the circle tool, but to get this you have to hold down on the square one and it will appear next to it. When you have this tool active you then have to place it round the picture so that the picture forms in the shape of a cd and then you have a cd.

You can also make the cd look more like a cd by changing it into a 3d shape so that it stands out more. For the little circle in the middle of where the cd goes, to make this appear as a part of the first picture you have to change the transparency of the first picture and it will appear, but to get rid of the checqured lines, all you have to do is change the paint bucket colour to white.
The last thing which I did was make the four tab bits which are sticking out of the cd, a part of the first picture. To do this it is very easy after you have been shown once, so what you do is select the tab so that it is highlighted, then you have to copy the layer of the first picture, delete the tab, and then paste it on back onto the same layer. The best thing to do next is to change the transparency so that it is less visible than the actual background picture. The background to the tab will be checquered so you have to change the paint bucket colour to white and it will look much better. Do this to all of the tabs and you will have a better looking inside to your digipak.

Here is a picture of the digipak template so that you don't get confused with what the 'circular' part is, as I say it quite a bit:

Test footage for 1,2,3,4

Above is mine, Ali's and Yasmins test footage for our music video for 1,2,3,4. We chose to have three different settings to add a bit of variety with location and set up.
If I could change anything about the test footage then I would make sure that we had a variety of different shots, for example; close-ups of max on the guitar and long shots of nature and things like that.

Storyboard for 1,2,3,4

Here is the storyboard for 30seconds of our song 1,2,3,4:

From this storyboard we have now made an animatic as well.

Here is a picture of me and Ali working on ideas for different frame shots.

Log Books

Here are the log books which on friday we used to write down the crew list and shot list.

Steve's lesson on thursday 4th

In Steve's lesson on the 4th we watched two music videos and for homework he asked us to look at one of the videos again 'favourite one' and write about it.
Here is the music video which I liked the most:

The reason why I liked this music video the most is because they have got a persons face and in editing they have made it appear as if the mouth is singing the lyrics but really they have done this in editing. I also like how they make parts of the face jump out to the beat in certain parts.

Timeline for 1234

Above is my groups timeline for our music video for 1234. Me , Yas and Ali decided to make our timeline on final cut and when the words on our timeline came up in the song, they would appear on the timeline.

Storyboarding for 30 seconds of 1234

In todays lesson we had to pick 30 seconds of our song '1234' to storyboard to.
Me, Yas and Ali decided to pick a part which we thought would show the a lot of potential in our ideas, so we decided to build up from "You know who you are" (1.56 - 2.33).
In this part which we chose we wanted to build up a montage of clips which shows happiness, brighness and excitement in the characters and in the atmosphere which we will create.
