Over the week-end i was thinking about our balloon idea which we had discussed and I then thought of an alternative idea as well, which we could either have instead of ballons or with the balloons. The alternative idea was to have 'kites'.
1. Possible Locations and Settings 2. Shot set up's you might be using in your video 3. Abstract ideas for textures and close-ups for the digi pack cover and magazine advert.
I am looking forward to the music video project because i think that the filming will be very fun to do, especially when we get all the people playing the instruments together. i also think that when it comes to editing and you know what you want the outcome to be that is also something to look forward to.
Worries:
I am worried about not getting extra people to perform in our music video and also not having enough time to edit is also something that i will take in to account, but hopefully that will not happen.
Solutions:
If the party scene looks to bare and not very realistic then we would get people in the longroad studio or the junction and try to make the scene look like there are a lot of people in the frame.
If the weather is bad and we want it to look like a bright atmosphere with a blue sky and we could edit it or use green screen.
Above are two pictures of evidence of my group working on the timeline. the timeline is where we act out where the important parts of our music video is going to happen.
This video was my favourtite video music video from hurtwood house becuase I think it is very interesting and I like the effects which they have added to it.
If I had to make this video the same as this one without any budget and just the resources at college, then I would ask the music department and friends for the instruments. For the absolutely white background then i would ask the drama department if i could use their room and i would only need two white walls and a white cloth on the floor to do this anyway. I would need to get five friends that would suit this style of soung or ask the drama department for actors willing to do it. I would have to get paint from home or ask the art department. For the moving picture frames all I would have to do is get a frame and put a greenscreen in it then I could just edit the video in to it.
The video above is the T-mobile advert where someone called Josh got lots of people to dance, sing and have fun on Liverpool street. This is the type of thing which we want to have happening in our '1234' muisc video. It would be very nice to have something like this to happen when all of the instruments come in to the song, because then it would make sence why there is a lot of people having fun and playing instruments.
This is our chosen track and the one which we are going to do for our music video project. This is also "Feist's" actual music video for 1234.
I like the colours used in the music video above and I think that it has really influenced our group to take a few risks and also has inspired us to make the music video have a very fun and energetic music video.
Above is my groups moodboard for 1234. For this idea we have decided to make it fun, energetic and colourful. We have a guitar in the board, because in the video we want the girl to play the guitar. The close-up of lips is also another idea that we have, and i think that it will look very good when we do the music video. In my group we have been exploring costumes for us to wear, and in the moodboard there are some of the ideas which we had.
Here is my draft treatment for '1234' I have written a one page treatment talking about what I would like to see in the music video if we were to get this song.
In todays lesson me and Ali created a moodboard, postcard and a presentation for our pitch for 'Shadows'. A bove are our moodboard and Postcard.
For the moodboard we decided to get pictures of mirrors, candals, paint, moon and make-up. This will be explained more when we have developed our idea.
On our postcard we have a picture from their actual music video, and we decided to get a birds eye view because it shows the instruments and all of the band, but it doesn't show their faces which can link back to the name shadows as they could be hiding their identity. We chose to put an effect on the picture in photoshop to make it look sharp and less realistic. On the piano we have put the title of the song 'Shadows' and when the video will be shown. In the top left hand corner is their actual logo for the bands name.
Here is my edit of the 'My Generation' music video which we all did as a class. I think I have done a very good job in this edit and I like how I have done quick shots and not let it drag on for to long apart from when Liams bass solo comes up , I think that i should have cut between different shots when that came up.
In todays lesson at coleridge, a uni student came in and gave us a presentation on how to create an outstanding music video like her ones. When she got given the music video project back in college, she and four other girls done a lot of planning to create this music video:
When I saw this video I realised how much effort her and her group must have put into it.
She then entered her music video into BBC Blast and won first prize. This ment that she would work with a team of professionals with a three thousand pound budget to create a music video and she would work as director. When she did this she worked with the 'Black Dog' company, who put her as director. Jasmine said that she would have liked to have been producer so that she would have been incharge of everything for example, the budget, everyone taking part in the video and also has power over the director. In the process of making the music video she had to do the 'Treatment' which is basically the paper version of the music video. On the treatment you have to add such things as visuals, key words of the song, take quotes from the lyrcics, write about being in synch and get straight to the point of what you are going to do. One important note that I took from Jasmine is that taking references from other songs is not stealing, it's borrowing. Here is the music video:
Shotlists and Storyboards: The shotlist is something which shows the timings for the lyrics so that you know when certain words are going to come up. From this you can work out when and where you want each scene to happen. For the storyboard you have to try and make every key point accurate, big and clear so that the whole team understands what is happening.
A few tips from Jasmine: "Make sure that you motivate your actors and be very specific when telling them what to do." "Keep location to a minimum and only have 2-3." "There are no limits to what you can do." "Just go out and enjoy it."
In todays lesson we finally got the music for our music videos. There were a range of different music, but there were two which we thought stood out the most, Shadows and 1234. We have already got visuals and concepts for these two videos, and here is what I jotted down about them.
Shadows: 1234:
We then thought of a back-up plan and we decided that our backup track would be feel the love. Here are the visuals and concepts which I was thinking of when listening to this music track. Feel the love: For the beginning of this song I could see a visual of a band playing in a studio, and then in towards the middle of the song I could see lots of people having fun and the atmosphere being quite playful. Towards the end my visual of the song was having everything going backwards/ in reverse.
Some other tracks (liked and disliked) Lets go surfing: I liked this one and could see a few visuals which popped in to my head after listening to it. At the beginning I think that someone whistling would be suitable for it, and as it moves into the middle and end having big text come and really fast pace text come up.
I'm good, I'm gone: This is the only song which I had ever heard before and I think that it is quite good. I could see visuals and concepts of the atmosphere being quite techno style, and maybe having a person standing in the middle of a room with light and dark light on either side of their face for the beginning. In the middle I can imagine the camera just following a girl around streets with a lot of lip synching. I think for this song the setting and location would have to be quite calm and relaxing.
Number one enemy: Although chipmunk is one of my favourite grime stars, I didn't really like this song because it was too rock style of music. We as a group couldn't really see any visuals for this song, but if we had to think of an idea then we would most probably have it quite fast paced.
Something good can work: As a group none of us liked this one at all, but I could still see a visual of a record being played at the beginning in black and white and very old style. Also because it drags on a lot we found it boring. Another valid reason is that it hardly has any singing, so this song wouldn't be very good for lip synching.
Wicked Little Girls: For the beginning of this one I could again see an old style black and white visual, which then bursts straight in to colour when the person starts singing. The reasons for not choosing this song is because it is too similar all the way through the song.
This is the unedited music video which we did as a class. My role was to tell people where to stand and how to position themselves within the frame. At first I was put down as the drummer but I decided not to do it in the end.
This is my shapes music video which I did in a class task. It isn't very long but I feel that I have had enough practice to understand how to edit the shapes on final cut to go in time with the music.
This is my poster for my digi-pack. I have chosen for the background to be a person on a mountain because the album is called 'The rise and fall of' and I have put the album title in a diagonal shape, having rise at the top and fall at the bottom.
Here is the digi-pack for the album 'The rise and fall of" by Butch Walker and 'The lets go out tonites'. I created this in photosho[p and edited it with my own images.
In the risk project I was very good at editing in final cut express, making the animation characters move around the screen with a steady pace and flow. Also in this music video project i have already found that lip synching is very easy to do and when it comes down to doing the actual project, I think that i will find it very easy to do.
Creativity:
In my film opening project I got and provided the right costumes, for example, school uniform and the hoodie which I was wearing in the opening. When we were editing I also came up with very interesting ideas, for example when the persons vision was blurry at the beginning I came up with that idea.
Organization skills:
In the risk project i produced a good example for a blog, where I wrote about what I did everyday and showed planning leading up to my animation. I also added a lot of pictures and wrote about why I chose to do each idea and what the pictures were
Special powers:
I have a few 'special powers' which I can use for this music video project. I have access to 'David Lloyd' gym where we could use the facilities for example, a swimming pool, gym, and a relaxing area. I might be able to get access to a massive house which one of my friends live in. My uncle has a chrysler which we could use if we wanted to show a nice car in the frame. I could also bring in instruments which i have at home, which include a drum kit, a guitar and my saxophone.
In todays lesson at coleridge the first task which we had to do was look at a variety of previous college work music videos and nominate which ones we thought had the following:
Best male vocal - Powers Best female vocal - I Don't want to see you Best use of location - Back against the wall Best camerawork - Back against the wall Best editing - Powers Most innovative concept - Powers
Wooden Spoon (worst video) - Fantastic six
The reasons why I nominated Powers as the best male vocal, best editing and most innovative concept is because in the video you see excellent lip synching when the rapper comes on, and it really takes off.In my opinion the editing at the beginning is really unique because i like the way they have four different shots in the same frame at the same time. They have really thought about this video very well, and what the song is talking about goes well with what is happening in the video.
The female vocals in 'I don't want to see you is quite good because the lip synching is in time, and they have used close-ups to show how well they have got the lips moving in time with the artist singing.
Back against the wall has a variety of locations including people in front of a wall with their back against it. They also have an office shot and a playground shot, but it is ironic because the little boy is in the office and the man is in the playground. Me and Sven both agreed that the camera work is very interesting as they have a variety of interesting shots.
Finally I chose that the 'Wooden Spoon' award (worst video) would go to Fantastic six as the lip synching wasn't in time, they didn't really use much camera shots, and the editing for me didn't work well.
Forthis task we had to get into a group, and I got into a group of three which included Sven Tom.B and myself. There were four different songs to choose from and we decided to choose 'Malice'. We had to shoot atleast four different angles of the complete song for each angle. In the filming i was on the drums, Sven was on the guitar and Tom was miming the song. To make sure everything was in placefor when we had to do the lip synching in the editing we had the song playing in the background. We did lots of different shots which I think worked really well when we finished editing. When we had got all of the film which we needed we went on to final cut and started to edit our music video. For each part that we wanted to use we had to put markers on a place in the song, and find that particular part in our filming. I think that the lip synching worked very well. From this task I have learnt howto use markers properly so that I can do lip synching properly. Our peers have said that the footage is very good and that they can imagine an actual band doing similar footage, but they think that we should have put cut more shots into it.
Screengrabs of work in progress: Here are some screenshots of mine and Toms editing in progress.
In this video I really like how the background stays the same all the way through the music video as it is always white, showing that their setting hasn't changed. I really like how they have edited this music video, and the song 'Transform Ya' really fits into what is happening in the video. How people appear into the frame is very interesting how objects 'TRANSFORM' into people. In one part of the song, Chris Brown mentions a firetruck and then a person transforms from a firetruck. I very much like the dancing in this video aswell and it all fits into what the song is about. The name of the song is also the concept of the music video as it shows things transforming into other things. I like how almost every shot moves to the next shot very quickly in time to the music, and I think doing this makes the camera work standout.
In this task we had to again work in the same pairs which we had worked with in the previous task. The music video which we had to edit was like a country video where the people in the video were in a barnyard and out in the countryside, and the music which they were dancing and lip syncing to was a country song. We had to place markers on the spot where we felt the person in the video was lipsynching the right words at the right time as the actual music. I found this task quite simple and easy because we had to place markers in the place were we thought it was accurate, and then from there everything is in place for you.
For this task we had to pair up in two's and go onto final cut express to find some music to go with the clips that we had to edit together. I worked with Louis for this task and we tried a different technique to everyone else, and we decided to make it look like the animals were lipsynching. From this task I have learnt that I can make something which I have never seen before and turn it into something which looks interesting.
The peer feedback which me and Louis recieved from this task was that our edited music video was very clever and that we used interesting techniques.
I very much enjoyed this task and learnt that things which look very complicated can be very simple and easy to do.
