Evaluation task 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ? (Part 1)

1. This shot shows the girl sitting on the piano with her sitting with a boy in the fade of the piano. The lyrics to this part says 'money can't buy you back the love that you had then' meaning that she is alone now but in her memory she was with the boy she is sitting with.
2. This is what I think the record company would want the artist to be represented like, because she is leaning back showing that she is a relaxed person and her clothing style really fits the song very well.
3. This is the shot which I think shows the type of music genre this song is. As he is playing an aucoustic guitar outside by a tree it makes it look a lot more indie like which is what the genre of the song is. The fact that he is sitting down by a tree shows that the song is most probably going to be relaxed and calm.
4. I find that this shot shows intertextuality as it shows what I think as teenagers being like, so this shot is an example of what most teenagers like doing which is going out with their friends and having fun partying and socialising with one another.
5. In my opinion I find that this shot shows camera work the most as it swoops from left to right in this scene of the video. I really like how the camera moves across the grass from left to right as it shows our group have come up with a variety of shot types.
6. I think that this shot shows the most lighting because you can see that it comes through from the right hand side down to the performers face which I think lookes good. For the party scene we decided to use lighting to make it look more like a party and I think that it worked out well.
7. I chose this shot for mise-en-scene because the atmosphere, the crowd and the background colours creates the scene of a party and makes it believable when you watch it. The way the performers are smiling also creates the illusion of a party as well.
8. I think that this long shot of Yasmin is quite similar to a shot in the song 'always where I need to be' by the Kooks at the time of 00.52. Around this same time they use the same kind of shots as we do in our video where Yas keeps moving around the room, but instead they keep switching round outside.
9. I also think that this shot of Rob on the guitar is similar to a shot in 'always where I need to be ' by the Kooks as well. This shot in the Kooks video happens at the time of 1.50. I think that these two shots look similar not because of the levels each guitarists are playing at but because of the similar position both are holding the guitar in.
Evaluation task 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ? (Part 2)

1. This screengrab is of the song 'Let it burn' by Usher. The lyric in this song which I have chosen is 'let it burn' but the main lyric which relates to the action is 'burn', as it shows water with fire above it, basicall saying let the water burn.
2. This is a screengrab from the song 'Candy shop' by 50 cent. I think that this shot in particular typifies the way the record company want the artist to look because he is sitting on a really expensive sports car, and is dressed what I would say most rappers would dress like, which I think sums up his personality and what they want people to think of him quite alot.
3. This screengrab is again used from 'Candy shop' by 50 cent. I think this shot shows the music genre because, when people see rappers videos they generally always have girls with them, this is why I think that this shot shows the genre type.
4. This is a screengrab from the music video 'U remind me' by Usher. The reason why I chose this shot to be the intertextual reference is because when I see this video, it straight away reminds me of Michael Jacksons 'The way you make me feel' video which I like very much, as in MJ's video he is singing to and following a girl around the streets and Ushers dance moves are very similar to what MJ does in his video.
5. I chose this screengrab for camera becuase I like how Usher is in the middle and the camera kind of tiltis up so that you can see the walls of the building leafing up to the top. I also like the frames on the building and there is something about the atmosphere which brings me to like this shot.
6. This is a screengrab from the song 'U remind me' by Usher which I have used in n.o 4 and 5. I think that this shot shows the use of lighting very well, becuase I like how the shadow of Usher with the orange lighting in the background.
7. This screengrab is from the music video 'Dance with me' by Dizzee Rascal. I chose this shot for mise-en-scene becuase the set is nicely shown and you can see that it is a party scene, the lighting shows that it is in a club and the costume are very party like with the actors in this shot all having a laugh which I think created mise-en-scene.
8. This is a screengrab from the song Hate that I love you by Rhianna and Neyo. When I look at some of the shots in this video I think that they have looked at the video Superhuman by Chris brown and Keri Hilsen. This is because they use similar shots and the same sort of story base to it.
9. This screengrab is from the song Heartless by Kanye west. I chose this music video as I think he might have looked at some of the Gorillaz animation and he might have taken some ideas from there to do an animation style video. I think that the animation style looks cool and I like both videos which I have put links to.
Evaluation task 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Comparing Digipak, Poster and Video:
Above are some screengrabs from my digipak, poster and video which I am going to compare. The first thing which all three of them have in common is the fact that the girl in all three screengrabs is the same girl, which is why i have linked them all up together with the arrows. Another similarity between all of them is that all of the pictures have been taken outside in a field or in the woods, so there is always a surrounding of trees.
The link between the digipak and poster is that the digipak is seen small on the poster in the bottom right. I have also put an arrow between the poster and the screengrab of the video because in the poster she is seen walking away and in the video she is on a piano with a reflection of her and a boy. The lyric which comes up when she is on the piano is "money can't buy you back the love that you had then". The reason why I have linked them together is because when she was sitting with the boy that was the past, so the poster shows her walking away suggesting that she has walked away from the past.
The writing on the digipak and poster pictures are the same as well. The reason why I made the writing the same for the ancillary task is to make it all link together so that if people were to buy the CD and poster, they would notice the link.
Comparing Digipak and Video:

Above I have put screengrabs of the digipak CD and a screengrab of the video . The link between these two screengrabs is that she is standing on top of a rock looking proud and happy and in the party scene picture she and everyone else are happy and having fun. I would also say that where she is standing on the rock she is maybe reflecting on the good times she has had.
Evaluation task 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
For my feedback I used paint and photoshop to make images and to make them look nice.
Class and teacher feedback for initial treatment:

I was pleased to see that people liked my treatment and when I looked at the points which they made I found that my group had to change parts of our treatment. The changes which we made to our treatment were first of all say how we would make it look like a big crowd in the party scene. So what we said was that we would keep the camera so that it would make everyone in the shot a tight squeeze which made everything look more realistic. For the actual video we had Yas in a few different costumes for the outfit change. We did this because in the feeback people thought that if we had costume it would look nicer.

For our rough cut feedback I liked that people liked our see through piano scene. They didn't seem to like how long each shot went on for and they said the lip syncing was a bit out of time. When we looked at this feedback we wrote down each thing people didn't like and looked at the video again and then changed each part if we agreed with what our class and teacher said.
(Digipak rough) feedback:
Here are some pictures of the early stages of my digipak:

Final version feedback; class and teacher:

Above is the feedback for my final video which i was very pleased with.
Evaluation task 4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Here are the things which i used in this music project to achieve the outcome of my music video.

Below are the programs which I used to do most things on when it came to editing and showing evidence for my work.
In this list of programs I have final cut which I did my music video editing on.
I have photoshop where I did my digipak and poster on.
I have blogger where I placed all the evidence and planning of my work on.
There is google which I used to pick up bits of information.
there is vimeo where I uploaded most of my work on including the music video.
Finally there is youtube where I looked at examples of videos and watched lots of interesting things.
If we had more time....
If we had more time to do the music video project I would most definitely like the weather to brighten up like it has in this last week so that we could get some nice shots of cutaways and even lip synching in the sun.
I would have liked there to have been shots of Yas and Rob together outside, but because we didn't have the time we Rob was singing in some of the shots we couldn't use them so we had to chuck some nice shots away. Rob is also playing too fast so we would have done another take where he is in time with the music.
I would also have liked to change the outfit scene a little bit as there is a plug in the way and I would have liked to moved some of the objects around the room, but we couldn't as we didn't have permission.
Overall I am very happy with my music video so these changes wouldn't have really made much difference apart from maybe some shots would have been tidier.

Music video deadline day
In todays lesson at coleridge we had to finish off our music videos. In my group, me, Ali and Yasmin looked at the things pete told us to change and corrected them. We changed the ending so that there were more short cuts and made everything flow with the music.
We tried to mask the plug so that it is less visible, by copying a part of the wall and pasting it over the plug socket. We decided that for the piano scene we would keep the background fade white and not have it look like she is sitting on the piano outside or in the studio.
We also added some close-ups of Rob playing the guitar in a part of the song, and also took out a cutaway of pebbles as one of our teachers Steve said it looked quite odd in the part of the build up.
Now we have finished our video I would like to say that I am very pleased with the overall outcome to our video. I think that it brings energy, fun and happiness to the atmosphere of the whole idea.

Final Digipak screengrabs
Here is my final digipak and poster design:

Above are my final designs for my digipak and poster. I am very pleased with my designs and I like the fact that all of my groups digipak's and posters are very different to one another. the top design is the front and back of my CD. On both sides I have put a watercolour effect on them and I think that they have turned out very well. I like how Yasmins face comes from the right side into the foreground with the background as the sky and trees. I took the field picture on long road field. The text comes from "www.dafont.com" and the text which I used is called 'Bleeding Cowboys'. I have my barcode on the right side of the back picture and originally the barcode had a white background to it, but I found a way to take it out so that you can see through it. I have the album tracks on the back as well. I chose a green text because I thought it looked more interesting than any other colour.
Underneath i have the inside of my digipak. I have gone for the classic simple design with no fold outs on it. I have put on the left picture that there is a dvd on the same CD as the music. The background pictures are of trees and me and my group took them in long road woods. In these pictures I have put an artistic water colour effect and I have also made them brighter. On the right picture I have added the CD. I have explained how to create the Cd in another post. As I saved my draft design as a JPEG, I couldn't change the layers and there was the writing from my draft on the CD. To get rid of this writing to get the writing I have on it now I had to use the stamp tool, which if you hold down ALT, it copies what you want it to copy. So where the writing was I copied other parts of the picture and pasted over it.
The last picture is my poster and on my poster I have added a cutout effect and have changed the brightness and contrast on it. The text is still the same but on some parts I have used a red colour for variety and to make the release date and rating stand out. I have also put four stars on the design in a yellow colour to make it look bright. The album name is down the side of the poster and the band name goes diagonally across the top. I have also put the digipak back, front, and inside in small on the poster, so that when the fans see this they will know what the layout is going to be like.

Editing (wednesday 10th march)
In todays lesson at Coleridge me and Ali were looking at ways to take out the plug socket and the white background of the piano shot of Yas.

To do this we had to go onto effects, video filters, matte and then finally eight point garbage matte. On this video filter we could grab each point and pull them in so that the white would disappear out of the shot.
As we couldn't take all of the white out we had to then go onto the filter and change the smoothness of the edges. For some reason when we changed the green colour it took out the white in the background and that is how we did it.
Here are some screen-grabs:
Stage 1: Moving the points down.

Stage 2: We made another sequence and brought the points down again.

Stage 3: This screen-grab shows what video filters to go on.

Stage 4: This is our effect on the timeline, with no white or plug socket.

Pete's Feedback
In tuesdays lesson at Coleridge Pete watched are rough cut of our music video and he gave us feedback for it.
He said that the music video is looking great and we are producing a good video. He liked how when Rob is going from tree to tree you can hear a popping sound as he moves from each tree.
When Yas is sitting on the piano Pete thought that we should try and get the plug socket to disappear to make it look nicer as the plug is in the way. He also gave us feedback that we should cut down the party scene at the end because it lasts a whole 30 seconds and it looks a bit boring, so me and Yas put different studio shots in and also some cutaways.
I think that pete's feedback is mostly all good and we have taken his advice on board and have made the changes which we needed to make.

Monday 8th lesson
In mondays lesson we had to write feedback about everyones music video's and we also got feedback from everyone about ours. The feedback included positives and what we could do for improvements.
Positives:
- I like how several pieces of footage are overlapped. Also how the guitarist goes from tree to tree, and when the singer disappears at the beginning of the footage.
- I love the camera being in the same place, and the fades, locations and the ideas work really well.
- Cute; good opening; costume; guitarist; mise-en-scene; shots; effects; graffiti room.
- Rob shots are good. Max shots are amazing!
- Costume change, lip synch, shot pans up to Rob, good editing.
- Costume and party Scene performance.
- The first 30 seconds to a minute has loads of cuts and this makes it more interesting.
- So many costume changes, edit of rob beginning and the piano fade looks like a music video already.
- Happy feel.
- Nice variety of shots, good use of rob, good effects on edit, Jman's shot.
- Great shots.
- Good use of costume and location, Jahmal shot FTW, teleporting!
- Changing spots & costume in same location, very nice! Effect with two videos looks cool, like the behind stage location.
- I love the faded shot where Yas looks like she's flying.

How to improve:
Some of the footage was not lip-synched right, maybe go back and improve this.
- Unless there's anything a thing you haven't put in yet that'll make it amazing, I wouldn't change much at all.
- Lip synch seems out in bits, feet go on too long cut a bit obvious towards end.
- Lip synch and guitar synch a bit off.
- Add Yaz singing outside; TAKE MAX OUT OF IT (hannah joking)
- I think the shot where you sort of see through the piano is held a little too long.
- The synch is slightly off at the beginning.
- Transparent stuff is best when its just in the piano not the whole frame, Jahmal at back.
- Some shots are to overloaded
- Lip synch out in faded shot.
- HD?....No
Some lipsyncing shots slightly off.
Lipsync sometimes not right.

1234 Rough Cut
Here is mine, Yas and Ali's rough cut version for 1234 which we finished in fridays lesson. I am overall very pleased with the outcome of our rough cut and I am sure that when we finish the real one it will be good. My favourite part is when Yas is sitting on the piano and it is like her memories are playing through faded in the background. I like this becuase it is something I feel not many people would think of doing. By putting all of our ideas together we have made a good team for making the music video.
Friday 5th lesson
In fridays lesson at coleridge, we spent the whole day editing. By the end of the day we were told that we had to have a rough cut of the music video finished, so me, Yas and Ali all sat round our computer and came up with ideas for what we wanted the video to look like. Although it was a rough cut we still wanted to put the effects onto it, so that we could get a feel for what the finished piece would be like like.
I am very proud of what we have achieved as a group in the music video project and when next week I am sure that we will have an interesting music video. There are obviously some parts in the video which we need to tweek up a little but that will all be possible in tuesdays lesson.

Digipak and Poster draft feedback
Composition - all space is filled, but images are stretched a little bit.
Colour Imagery - The colours all complement each other and are nice and bright.
Typography - A bit bland, could be more interesting.... but set out nice. Well done.
Text on back is slightly unclear.
Pictures like one thing.
Bit bright.
cool CD (picture)
Images on front and back look like they've been taken on a phone however if you incorpurated this with the inside it may look like that is the theme.
Could use a slightly more interesting font and colours other than sort of plain prime colours.
I have looked at the feedback for my digipak and i mostly agree with what people have said about it. I need to sort out the front two images because they do look stretched and as if they were taken on a phone, so i think to change that i will need to do something on photoshop. I like the fact that people have said it is a little to bright, because I can now go back and tone it down a bit and maybe put an effect on it.
Mostly people have said that they like how i have made the actual CD look, because I spent time trying to make it look like an actual CD.
I thought that the colours worked well with the whole theme of our music video, but I now understand what people have said and I am going to go back and change the colours and font to make it look like a real digipak.
The improvements and changes that I am going to make to my digipak are to firstly make the images not look so stretched, I will also maybe add an effect on it and tone the colour down, making it look not so bright.
